Many of you have asked about my daily routine – how I manage to balance family responsibilities, my writing career, and self-care. So today, I’m giving you a peek into a typical day in my life. Remember, every day is different, and flexibility is key!
5:30 AM: Wake up and Meditation
- I start my day early with 15 minutes of meditation. This quiet time centers me for the day ahead.
6:00 AM: Morning Pages
- I write three pages of stream-of-consciousness writing. This practice, inspired by Julia Cameron’s “The Artist’s Way,” helps clear my mind and often sparks creative ideas.
6:30 AM: Family Time
- Help get the kids ready for school. This often involves making breakfast, packing lunches, and the eternal search for missing socks!
8:00 AM: Exercise
- After the morning rush, I take 30 minutes for yoga or a brisk walk. Physical activity boosts my energy and creativity.
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Writing Time
- This is my dedicated writing time. I work on my current poetry collection, blog posts, or my Anglo-Indian community project.
12:00 PM: Lunch and Household Chores
- I prepare a quick lunch and tackle some household chores. I often use this time to listen to podcasts or audiobooks.
2:00 PM – 4:00 PM: More Writing or Community Engagement
- If I’m on a roll, I continue writing. Otherwise, I use this time for emails, social media engagement, or planning upcoming projects.
4:00 PM – 7:00 PM: Family Time
- The kids are back from school. This time is for helping with homework, preparing dinner, and catching up on everyone’s day.
7:00 PM – 8:00 PM: Reading Time
- I try to read for at least an hour every day, alternating between poetry collections and prose.
8:00 PM – 9:30 PM: Wind Down
- Family time, often watching a show together or playing a board game.
9:30 PM: Journaling and Reflection
- I end my day by jotting down three things I’m grateful for and setting intentions for the next day.
10:00 PM: Lights Out
- Early to bed, early to rise!
Of course, this schedule flexes when life happens – a sick child, a looming deadline, or unexpected guests. The key is to be kind to yourself and remember that balance is not about perfection, but about making conscious choices each day.
